Thessaloniki Metro – The Metromole activities have come to an end
Mr. Yannis Mylopoulos: “It is a great day for Thessaloniki. Tunnels were completed. We managed to respond efficiently to the major request of the citizens of Thessaloniki and we are moving on”.
The completion of the boring of the second tunnel in the extension to Kalamaria signaled the completion of all tunneling activities on July 31st 2018.
“Frixos”, the second TBM, has arrived at 25 MARTIOU Station. Thus, the construction of tunnels has been completed at a percentage of 100%, Civil Works by 80% and the Project concerning the extension to Kalamaria is completed at a percentage of 60%.
STATEMENT OF PROFESSOR YANNIS MYLOPOULOS,
CHAIRMAN OF ATTIKO METRO S.A.
On the occasion of the above evolution, Prof. Yannis Mylopoulos, Chairman of ATTIKO METRO S.A., stated as follows:
“Today is a great day for the Thessaloniki Metro Project. The completion of all tunneling works in both lines, the Base Line and the Extension to Kalamaria, brings the Project closer to its termination.
The connection of the tunnels at the Kalamaria Extension Line with the Base Line of Thessaloniki Metro coincides with the completion of the most difficult in technical terms, due to geological difficulties, the most time-consuming and the most expensive part of a Metro Project, which is the boring of underground tunnels.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all ATTIKO METRO S.A. employees and to the personnel of the Contracting Company AKTOR S.A. for the great joint effort we have all made during the last two and a half years to revive a major project and make a dream come true for the city of Thessaloniki.
Finally, I would also like to express my warmest thanks to the citizens of Thessaloniki for their confidence and their patience and assure them that we are making every possible effort to respond to the major request, which is the completion and operation of the Metro Project”.
REMOVAL OF WORKSITE OCCUPATION
Since the Metro extension to Kalamaria progresses rapidly, on Tuesday July 31st 2018 the worksite occupation was removed and the vehicular traffic is being reinstated at the intersection of Vassilissis Olgas Ave. with Moshonission & Mitropoliti Kydonion Grigoriou streets.

TO THE FIRES AT EAST ATTICA
Tunneling works in Thessaloniki have been completed at a difficult time for the country, following the tragedy in East Attica.
ATTIKO METRO S.A., extending its solidarity and sympathy to the victims of the fires, made immediately available 32 engineers to perform on site inspections in the affected areas in the framework of the activities undertaken by the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport.
