SIGNING OF THE CONTRACT CONCERNING THE SUPPLY
OF 25 NEW TRAMWAY VEHICLES
Today, upon the contract signing between ATTIKO METRO S.A. and the French Company ALSTOM TRANSPORT S.A., the procedure concerning the award of the supply of 25 new Tramway vehicles, necessary for the smooth operation of the entire Tramway network, which shall be extended to the centre and the port of Piraeus by the end of 2018, was completed.
These Tramway vehicles are second generation vehicles, which will be integrated into the entire Athens and Piraeus network and are equipped with state-of-the-art safety and operation systems.
The scope of the contract includes the supply (design, construction/installation of equipment, factory tests, delivery to the Depot, performance and commissioning tests) of twenty five (25) Tramway vehicles in view of satisfying the needs of the Tramway network extension to the major area of Athens, and the supply of the main spare parts of both vehicles and maintenance equipment.
The initially estimated budget of the scope of the Contract amounted to 64 million Euro, VAT excluded, and the Contracting Company will execute the entire scope of the Contract against the amount of 54 million Euro, VAT excluded, within a period of 940 days.
This Project is integrated into the Regional Operational Programme (ROP) Attiki 2014-2020 and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
The first new generation Tramway vehicles are expected to circulate in Athens and Piraeus by the end of 2019 and their supply is expected to be completed by 2020.
