During the meeting held today with the Chairman and members of Thessaloniki Traders Association, Mr. Nikolaos Tachiaos, Chairman of ATTIKO METRO S.A BoD, expressed his reassurance that the works for the construction of Thessaloniki Metro are progressing at a fast pace and that the project could be commissioned early 2023.
Mr. Tahiaos stated as follows: “Our goal is, by April 2023, to deliver to the city of Thessaloniki an operational, state-of-the-art and fully automated Metro System that will have integrated all stations of the Base Line – VENIZELOU Station included. Until this very day, works are progressing at a pace complying with the time schedule we have set, a fact that allows us to believe that our final goal is actually achievable. At the same time, we will put all our efforts, to free and develop public surface areas the soonest possible.
During the meeting held at the worksite of AGHIA SOFIA Station, the Chairman of ATTIKO METRO S.A. BoD, along with Mr. George Konstantinidis, Manager of the Managing Department of the Project and executives on the part of the Construction Joint Venture briefed the members of Thessaloniki Traders Association on the progress of the Project. Further on, the Thessaloniki Traders Association representatives were given a tour to the station under construction and were given the opportunity to witness the works under progress.
Mr. Tachiaos explained that, based on the works progress rate, by the end of March, the area occupied by the worksite at Egnatia Street will have been confined and fencing will be limited, freeing, thus, an area of approximately 30m. to the southwest. In addition, the sidewalk will be widened by 60cm in view of facilitating the circulation of pedestrians.
The visit of Thessaloniki Traders Association Representatives continued and was completed at Venizelou worksite; the Chairman of ATTIKO METRO S.A. BoD informed the aforementioned representatives that preparatory works are being executed in the subject worksite, in view of the issuance of the Ministerial Decision in conformity with the opinion of the Central Archaeological Council that foresees detaching and placing back of the antiquities found.
