Unfortunately, today’s unexpected visit of the leader of opposition party did not allow “Attiko Metro SA”. to give him a serious briefing on the progress of Thessaloniki Metro.
If his contact with the project so far escaped the logic of PR stunts, Mr. Tsipras would clearly see the actual facts:
If he paid a visit to the tunnels, he would see that completion in 2020 of the project we inherited last year, can only be perceived as a practical joke. If he paid a visit to the depot, he would realize that without an organized and trained operator in place, whose establishment takes more than two years, no Metro system can be run. If he had tried to trace the progress of the so-called solutions to the problems of Venizelou Station, problems that lingered for almost five years from 2015 to last December, he would agree with the one and single technically feasible and economically viable method, i.e., safely detaching and subsequently placing back of the antiquities.
On the contrary, Mr. Tsipras has chosen to turn his back on the truth, obviously because he knew very well that facing the truth would mean facing the liabilities of his own term in office. The delays and surcharges currently tormenting Thessaloniki Metro bear the signature of SYRIZA.
The current management of “Attiko Metro SA” inherited a project with plethora of outstanding issues, artfully wrapped in a mist of lies and myths. We assure the residents of Thessaloniki that we will complete the project in time as per our commitment, with the utmost respect to transparency and proper management of the funds from the EU and the Greek State.
