Educational action for children “METRO Going Green: Counting its Itineraries”

Further to the completion of Metro Line 3 Extension to Piraeus and its recent delivery for revenue service and use by the public,on Friday, November 25th 2022, ATTIKO METRO S.A. organized an original educational action for elementary schoolpupils entitled “METRO Going Green: Counting its Itineraries” in the surrounding area of PIRAEUS Station.

5th and 6th grade elementary school pupilsfrom“Uruguay” 2ndElementary School of Piraeus participated in the action. The 2ndElementary School of Piraeus was founded in 1895; in school year 1993-1994 it twinned with the School HELLAS in Montevideo, Uruguay and was renamed to “Uruguay” 2ndElementary School of Piraeus.

The pupils, escorted by their teachers, gathered outside the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, where Line 3 terminal station is located,in which significant finds from the greatest urban archeological survey ever carried out in the wider area of Piraeus are exhibited and where a station-museum has been created that houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the water supply system of the ancient city of Piraeus.

Using as its central motto “METRO Going Green: Counting its Itineraries”,ATTIKO METRO S.A. took the initiative to organize an information original training program, specially designed to familiarize children with “green” transportation.

Children had the opportunity to learn about the environmental benefits that ecological transportation yields for the city’s citizens and visitors.

More precisely, through recreational, sports’ and experience actions, children were informed on “green” transportation modes and on their environmental benefits, but also on the sources of environmental pollution. For example, they were invited to solve a “green” Sudoku, participate in group games and create theme structures closely linked with environmental awareness.

ATTIKO METRO S.A. designed and implemented the original training program destined for the primary schools of Piraeus in cooperation with Choose-Stratego group of companies and Kivotos Events (www.kivotosevents.gr), a specialized team organizing training programs for schools.

The area where the action took place was conceded by the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Piraeus.
