On Tuesday December 19th 2023, the area occupied by the Thessaloniki Metro worksite for the construction of the NEW RAILWAY station will be released. Thus, as of Wednesday, December 20th 2023, the 3.5m wide right lane (traffic lane with direction to the west) of Monastiriou street, extending from Michail Kalou street to Aghion Panton street, is given over to traffic.
The road pavement of Monastiriou Street was reinstated, new street lighting and the necessary signage were installed, while the 180m-long sidewalks were re-configured from OASTH (Thessaloniki Transportation Authority) terminal station up to Aghion Panton street, to ensure smooth pedestrian circulation.
It is estimated that, in approximately one week, upon completion of the works for the construction of the central island, Monastiriou Street will be reinstated to its initial condition prior to the commencement of the Metro works, with three traffic lanes per direction throughout its entire length.
