Today, the Prime Minister Mr. Kostas Karamanlis visited the main worksite of Thessaloniki Metro and made the following statements:
“I visited today the main worksite of Thessaloniki Metro and I was informed on the progress and the course of works. The two TBMs are in full operation. The project progresses at a rapid pace.
Recently, the Ministry of PEHODE proceeded to the tendering of the first extension of Thessaloniki Metro to Kalamaria with five stations and five kilometers of underground tunnel. Of course, the other extension to Stavroupoli is also in the design phase. This project will lead to a complete Metro network, which will enhance life in Thessaloniki in terms of transportation and, thus, upgrade the citizens’ quality of life.
Thessaloniki Metro is the largest public project in terms of transportation and environment currently under construction in Greece and it will be one of the most modern Metro networks throughout Europe.
The citizens of Thessaloniki have been waiting for the Metro construction for many years. Today, Thessaloniki Metro is no longer a delusion. It finally becomes reality.”
